An Opportunity to Serve

Let me tell you about my heart.  It longs for God.  It longs to serve and love other people.  And it longs to do both of these things alongside my best friend, my husband Kyle.

Serving and going on “mission trips” has been such a huge part of my faith and life journey since I was young.  It has always brought me a deep, deep joy to go and to love with abandon.  The best days I have had on this earth have been those in which I intentionally set aside my “every day normal” and went to serve. (The only exception being my wedding day, for that was truly the best day of my life thus far.)

I loved serving and living abroad so much, that after The World Race, my desire was to move back to Thailand to pursue ministry.  However God had other plans, the greatest of which was of course Kyle.  We both took jobs with Adventures in Missions in 2013, and have ever since been incredibly humbled by the responsibilities we have been entrusted with to support the overall mission of the organization to “mobilize a generation of radical Christ followers, discipling and training them to establish the Kingdom of God.”

However, it has been near to our heart that we could find an opportunity at Adventures to not only plug in and be reminded of why we spend our time buried in spreadsheets, finances, and metrics, but more importantly to serve together for the purpose of the Kingdom of God.

So we are beyond excited to announce that in a few short weeks, we will be heading to Antigua, Guatemala to help facilitate a Parent Vision Trip (PVT) for The World Race!  A PVT is when racers get the opportunity to invite their parents onto the field with them for a week, with the goal being to bring the parent and racer together in ministry, to bless one another, and to talk about what God has been doing in their lives.

This is the perfect fit for us for so many reasons.  First, we are pumped about the idea of intergenerational ministry, specifically parents and sons/daughters coming together to serve – what a powerful thing! Second, the World Race was such a life changing experience for the both of us, and we can’t wait to spend a week with current participants who only have a few months left on the field.  I’m pretty excited to hear what all God has already done in their lives, and spend some time loving on and encouraging them. Third, Kyle and I get the opportunity to help lead worship while we are there, a way of serving that has been very special to us.

It’s going to be an amazing week, and we are believing that it will be fruitful not just for the parents and racers attending, but for us as well.

As part of attending the PVT, we have agreed to raise support for Adventures in Missions. We would be so honored if our family and friends would like to come around us in this way, and help us reach our goal of $1,260. We would also cherish your prayers, first and foremost for the participants, parents, and facilitators, but also for continued direction as we believe God will use this opportunity to give us continued direction in life.
